Waxworm Experiment
Experiment begun with 360 waxworms.*
Control:
Oats soaked in honey water and dried.
WW1:
1 Produce bag (HDPE #2) outside brushed with honey water. Inside dry.
WW2:
2 Ziploc bags ( sprayed with honey water, 1 inserted into the other, and waxworms added to the inside which wasn't sprayed.
WW3:
5.5 g of shredded plastic from papertowel wrapping sprayed with honey water.
*Significant loss as noted prior possibly due to disease. Health of this batch is questionably compromised.
3 days or so after the experiment began I decided to end it early because all the waxworms seemed unwell and the control with proper food were dying at an equal rate. I read that unhealthy waxworms are a darker color and eventually darken when dessicated or decomposing. I've gathered the healthy waxworms and placed them in a fresh container with sweetened oats and won't be testing on them. I may buy another batch of waxworms or interested in soldier fly larvae still as well.
